Job Purpose
Oversee all warehouse operations and maintain the integrity of raw materials, packaging, and finished goods, including any third-party warehouses used for the storage/supply of products. Manage shipping and receiving operations and inventory levels while ensuring material handlers, warehouse service providers, equipment, and physical assets are safe.
Essential Functions
- Identify best practices for warehouse management; continuously evaluate performance of warehouse functions to optimize effectiveness
- Ensure documented procedures and processes are developed and implemented throughout the department
- Monitor daily activity of all shipping, receiving, and inventory warehouse employees to ensure the highest level of internal and external customer service
- Oversee inventory controls, returns, product damage, material transactions, and inventory balances
- Ensure coordination of inventory transfers and physical inventories
- Guide individuals and groups towards effective control of material movement in, around, and outside of the facility
- Act as a liaison between manufacturing and customer service
- Direct ongoing communication and collaboration with customers (both internal and external) to ensure results meet or exceed customer expectations for service, quality, reliability, speed, and accuracy
- Inspect physical condition of warehouses, including equipment, products, and supplies; order maintenance, repairs, or replacements as needed
- Prepare and manage departmental budgets
- Interview and select warehouse employees who will fit well into the working culture and share the company's core values
- Oversee the training, development, and coaching of warehouse employees, including requirements for keeping the warehouse clean, organized (utilizing 5S principles), and defect free
- Train/cross-train warehouse associates on all company-required training
- Define, develop, and set metrics for internal warehouse employees; provide specific electronic reports (metrics) as required
- Foster a sense of team responsibility for achieving goals
- Support food safety program, quality standards, and legality of manufactured products
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Qualifications (Education, Experience, Competencies)
- Bachelor's degree in a supply chain related discipline and/or 3 equivalent years of experience
- APICS affiliation/certification desired
- Food manufacturing experience and familiarity with commodity-sensitive businesses preferred
- Retail and foodservice channel experience desired
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office with advanced skills in Excel; experience with ERP Systems: Microsoft Great Plains, Navision, SAP
- Experience with manufacturing modules including MRP, MPS, and WMS desired
- Strong leadership and team-building skills with an intense desire to drive positive change and deliver results
- Ability to establish rapport quickly, communicating with ease, skill, and conviction
- Ability to effectively work across different departmental functions and levels of the company, reducing or eliminating barriers to inter-departmental decision making
- Ability to organize, manage multiple priorities, and maintain high attention to detail in a fast-paced environment
- Self-motivated, goal oriented, quality driven, and capable of working independently with minimal supervision
