Continuous Improvement (CI) Coordinator (Co-Op/Intern)

Our client is seeking a Continuous Improvement (CI) Coordinator (Co-Op/Intern) to support Operational Excellence (OPEX) initiatives within a dynamic manufacturing environment. This role offers hands-on exposure to Lean principles, manufacturing processes, and cross-functional collaboration while helping drive a culture of continuous improvement.

Position Overview

Reporting to the Site OPEX Manager, the CI Coordinator will support continuous improvement initiatives using Lean manufacturing tools, structured problem-solving methods, and operational best practices.

This role assists in planning, executing, and sustaining improvements resulting from Rapid Improvement Events (RIEs) and Kaizen events that impact key operational metrics: Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost (Productivity), and Inventory (Eaton's High 5).

Key Responsibilities
  • Apply the Eaton Lean Six Sigma (ELSS) framework to support plant performance improvements and integrate CI principles into daily operations.

  • Collaborate with the CI Manager and cross-functional teams including Operations, Manufacturing Engineering, and Quality.

  • Support and learn various manufacturing processes and new technologies.

  • Participate in root cause investigations and structured problem-solving activities.

  • Assist in implementing process changes and documenting manufacturing processes, including:

    • Creating statistical process control charts

    • Updating standard work documentation

  • Support employee training on Lean tools and reinforce concepts introduced during Kaizen and RIE activities.

  • Track and follow up on action items from improvement events to ensure timely completion and long-term sustainability.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or current enrollment in an accredited full-time bachelor's degree program.

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship now or in the future.

  • This position requires access to information and hardware subject to International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

    • Applicants must qualify as a U.S. Person under ITAR (U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident/Green Card Holder, Political Asylee, or Refugee).

  • No relocation assistance provided.

    • Candidates must reside within 50 miles of 20705 (Beltsville, MD) to be considered.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Coursework or background in:

    • Engineering

    • Computer Science

    • Aerospace Engineering

    • Related technical fields

  • Strong computer skills; programming experience preferred.

  • Experience with drafting or modeling tools.

  • Basic coding skills and understanding of statistics.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel and PowerPoint).

  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing concepts.

Skills & Competencies
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills (including virtual communication).

  • Ability to create and deliver presentations.

  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, particularly with production operators.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
