Opportunity

Responsible for organizing, coordinating and supervising activities of the Iron Foundry, Induction Melting Department and all supporting functions as necessary to provide the required amount of melted iron of correct temperature and composition as noted in iron specifications.

Specific Responsibilities

General E-Melt Supervisor Responsibilities

  • Maintain Tier 1 board
  • Keep current on all required training including safety and ISO
  • Support KOS and maintain 5S efforts
  • Prepare process sheets for OEM production schedules
  • MSDS book - keep current
  • Maintain quality of iron through analysis and temperature tests and make necessary alloy changes to conform to required specification
  • Make frequent inspection of equipment and work with the maintenance department to ensure equipment is available for production
  • Prepare melt records for management as required
  • Record and report power and material usage
  • Fill in for supervision as required to cover vacations, training, etc.
  • Analyze processes and recommend/develop improvements for cost savings, safety, and ergonomics
  • Maintain conformance with rules and regulations, issues violation warnings, and administers approved disciplinary measures as required
  • Implement the instructions and requirements for safety, environmental compliance, energy management, and sustainability, and be fully responsible for the environmental, health, and safety requirements and objectives in their area
  • Responsible for EHS education for new and current workers (including visitors).
  • Responsible for the EHS inspection in their area and maintaining a clean and safe work area. Creating detailed records, participating in accident investigation, analysis, and implement preventive measures as needed

Supervisor - Electric Melt Responsibilities Specific Responsibilities

  • Maintain inventories of purchased melt materials including steel, cast, and shredded Change charge based on revert inventory and charge material cost. Record all changes Inspect incoming raw materials and determine disposition of defective material and issue SDMR
  • Select and maintain refractory inventory
  • Responsible for daily furnace repair schedules
  • Maintain performance records for ladles, furnaces, launders, HMC ladles and schedule repairs to maintain adequate supply
  • Schedule melt furnaces for ductile iron production based on electrical reading
  • Monitor channel furnace reactance and shell temperature and schedule repairs as needed (hot gunning repairs)
  • Maintain auto-pour and make repairs between major rebuilds and supply stopper rods for production
  • Troubleshoot refractory problems and recommend changes. Stay current with refractory technology and maintain contact with refractory vendors
  • Adjust and maintain Meltlab (CE) computer program
  • Responsible for communicating production run times and iron schedules
  • Monitor and react to ductile iron process
  • Maintain and update Contract Casting) computer program including making changes to the program to fit quality and production requirements
  • Schedule manpower to meet production requirements considering vacation and absenteeism
  • Coordinate manpower with first and second shift to insure adequate staffing to meet production schedules
  • Read prints and update and maintain prints for refractory work and mechanical equipment

Supervisor - Electric Melt Responsibilities Specific Shut Down Responsibilities(Essential Functions)

  • Schedule in-house manpower for shutdown
  • Communicate and implement channel and auto-pour heat up schedules
  • Coordinate refractory work with other projects

Skills/Requirements

  • Foundry furnace and ladle refractories experience is preferred.
  • The ability to troubleshoot refractory problems and recommend changes is preferred .
  • The ability to respond to emergencies is also required.
  • The ability to read and update prints, basic computer skills with the ability to understand/learn new programs required.
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.
  • A minimum of an Associate's Degree, Technical diploma, or equivalent work experience.
