Position Summary

Walker Building Group is seeking an experienced Stormwater Construction Superintendent to oversee all field operations on assigned projects. This leadership position is responsible for managing crews, subcontractors, equipment, production schedules, safety compliance, and quality control while ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and within budget.

The ideal candidate is a proven construction leader with extensive stormwater utility experience who can motivate crews, solve problems in the field, and maintain strong communication with project management and clients.

Essential Responsibilities

Project Leadership

  • Lead all field operations from project startup through completion.
  • Plan and coordinate daily construction activities to maximize productivity.
  • Schedule manpower, equipment, materials, and subcontractors.
  • Monitor project progress and proactively address delays or conflicts.
  • Ensure work is completed according to project plans, specifications, and company quality standards.

Crew Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop foremen and field employees.
  • Assign daily work activities and monitor production.
  • Promote teamwork, accountability, and professionalism.
  • Conduct daily toolbox talks and safety meetings.
  • Assist with employee training and performance development.

Safety

  • Champion Walker Building Group's safety culture.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
  • Conduct daily Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and pre-task planning.
  • Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe jobsite.

Construction Management

  • Interpret civil plans, utility profiles, grades, and specifications.
  • Coordinate with Project Managers regarding schedule, budget, RFIs, change orders, and project updates.
  • Monitor production goals and labor efficiency.
  • Ensure proper installation of:
    • Storm Drain Systems
    • Water Mains
    • Sanitary Sewer
    • Structures
    • Manholes
    • Box Culverts
    • Reinforced Concrete Pipe (RCP)

Equipment & Materials

  • Coordinate equipment utilization and maintenance.
  • Verify material deliveries and inventory.
  • Ensure company assets are operated safely and responsibly.

Documentation

  • Maintain accurate daily reports.
  • Track production quantities.
  • Review timesheets.
  • Document delays, weather impacts, inspections, and change orders.
  • Coordinate inspections with municipalities and engineers.

Qualifications

Required

  • 10+ years of underground utility construction experience.
  • 5+ years supervising field crews.
  • Extensive experience with stormwater construction.
  • Ability to read and interpret civil plans and specifications.
  • Experience with pipe lasers, grading, elevations, and layout.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA safety regulations.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.

Preferred

  • Experience with GPS machine control.
  • Experience using construction management software.
  • OSHA 30 Certification.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
  • CDL is a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Walk uneven terrain throughout the day.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Climb, kneel, crouch, bend, and stand for extended periods.
  • Wear required PPE at all times.

Schedule

  • Monday-Friday
  • Typical workweek is 50+ hours, depending on project needs.
  • Occasional Saturdays as required.
  • Local travel throughout Middle Tennessee.

Expected Annual Compensation

The advertised annual compensation range reflects the estimated total earning potential for this salaried position, based on the candidate's experience and qualifications. The advertised range includes both the annual base salary and the average annual bonus earned through Walker Building Group's quarterly bonus program, which is paid in four quarterly installments throughout the year.

Base salary is determined by experience, skills, and overall qualifications. Quarterly bonus payouts are based on individual and company performance and are not guaranteed. Actual annual compensation may vary depending on business conditions, project performance, and bonus eligibility.
