Opportunity

As a Staff Engineer in Current Product Development (CPD), you will lead the technical execution of projects aimed at improving existing Kohler sanitary products. This includes performance enhancements, cost optimization, manufacturability improvements, product migrations, and resolution of field issues. You will apply advanced engineering principles, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate cross-functionally to deliver robust, high-quality solutions. You will exhibit considerable project management skill, including complete planning, implementation and critique of all engineering deliverables.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Lead engineering analysis and implementation of design modifications to improve product performance, manufacturability, and cost.
  • Diagnose laboratory and field test failures, establish root causes using structured problem-solving tools (e.g., Root Cause Analysis, FMEA), and implement corrective actions.
  • Originate and evaluate ideas for product improvements and feature enhancements based on customer feedback, field data, and internal initiatives.
  • Develop and execute test plans to validate design changes and ensure compliance with product specifications.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed design documentation, including CAD models, drawings, test reports, and design histories.
  • Manage CPD project timelines and deliverables, ensuring alignment with business goals and cross-functional milestones.
  • Present technical findings and recommendations clearly and effectively to project teams and senior management.
  • Mentor and support less experienced engineers and technical staff in technical problem-solving and best practices.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, Marketing, and Customer Service to ensure product improvements meet stakeholder needs and are implemented effectively.
  • Support supplier development and quality initiatives for purchased components and materials.



Skills/Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in product development or CPD-related engineering roles.
  • Demonstrated experience in root cause analysis, Six Sigma tools (FMEA, DOE, process capability), and structured problem-solving.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling is a plus (Creo preferred).
  • Strong project management and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and lead cross-functional initiatives.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed (
