How You Will Make an Impact
The Sr. Manager of Facilities & Engineering is a strategic leader responsible for the design, planning, construction, maintenance, and optimization of facilities, equipment, and automation systems across the site. This role combines leadership of facilities operations, environmental health & safety (EHS), and engineering/automation development for pharmaceutical manufacturing processes.
This person will oversee facility infrastructure, develop and implement automation strategies, improve manufacturing efficiency, and ensure all operations meet regulatory, safety, and quality standards. This role also includes leading high-performing teams, developing organizational policies, managing capital projects, and shaping long-term operational strategy.
What You Will Do
Leadership, Recruitment & Organizational Development
- Recruit, interview, and hire for Facilities, Engineering, and EHS teams.
- Define and communicate hiring criteria; guide hiring managers through interview best practices.
- Monitor turnover, identify causes, and implement retention strategies.
- Build and maintain succession plans for Facilities, Engineering, and EHS functions.
- Identify individual/team strengths and development needs; validate and support training programs.
- Coach, mentor, and empower team members to deliver excellence to internal and external partners.
Performance & People Management
- Set departmental goals aligned with corporate objectives and industry best practices.
- Provide continuous feedback, coaching, and performance evaluations in a timely manner.
- Recognize achievements and ensure fair, consistent rewards and recognition.
- Lead and coordinate large teams, maintaining focus and stability during crises or critical events.
- Drive a culture of continuous improvement across departments.
Facilities Management
- Manage the design, planning, modification, and maintenance of buildings, utilities, equipment, and site infrastructure.
- Plan and administer facility budgets, capital investments, schedules, and cost estimates.
- Oversee space planning, building layout optimization, communication services, and facility expansion projects.
- Establish, update, and enforce facility-related policies, operating procedures, and standards.
- Develop and execute preventative maintenance programs for facility systems and major equipment.
- Ensure full compliance with all safety, environmental, regulatory, and quality requirements.
Engineering, Automation & Manufacturing Support
- Lead technical engineering teams in designing, developing, and implementing automation solutions for pharmaceutical manufacturing processes.
- Develop the site's automation vision, strategy, and technology roadmap.
- Drive innovation in automation equipment, tooling, robotics, and process optimization.
- Develop cost-effective solutions to support high-mix/low-volume manufacturing applications.
- Oversee design, procurement, installation, and optimization of automation and large-scale assembly systems.
- Enable future material handling automation, warehouse technologies, and industrial robotics.
- Resolve complex engineering and automation challenges through technical leadership and collaboration.
Continuous Improvement & Operational Excellence
- Lead facility and automation initiatives focused on quality, efficiency, cost reduction, and reliability.
- Integrate Lean, Six Sigma, and advanced quality tools throughout the organization.
- Partner cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, and EH&S on technology implementation and process innovation.
Communication & Influence
- Provide clear, structured communication across all levels of the organization.
- Establish strong communication forums and feedback loops with teams and leadership.
- Tailor communication style to team members; encourage ideas, questions, and engagement.
- Advocate for best-practice EHS and facilities procedures using effective internal marketing and training.
Additional Responsibilities
- Manage business continuity plans and emergency response programs.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support operational strategy and corporate goals.

How will you get here?
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Civil, or related field).
- Master's degree preferred.
- Equivalent education and experience combination may be considered.
Experience
- 10+ years of industrial facilities management experience.
- 5+ years leading technical, engineering, or facilities teams.
- Strong background in Facilities Engineering, EHS Management, and automated manufacturing systems.
- Proven success managing complex engineering/facilities projects from concept through completion.
- Experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated success leading automation design and implementation initiatives.
- Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Extensive knowledge of facility systems, automation technologies, robotics, and manufacturing processes.
- Strong financial/business acumen including budgeting, analytics, and capital planning.
- Ability to read/interpret technical journals, engineering documents, financial reports, and regulatory guidance.
- Ability to solve complex, practical problems in environments with minimal standardization.
- Strong communication skills; able to present to executive leadership and cross-functional teams.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, CAD tools (AutoCAD, SolidWorks), and project management platforms.
- Strong understanding of logistics operations, indirect/direct taxes, and global customs (preferred for multi-site or global operations).
