Job Summary As a maintenance technician, you will play a vital role in the maintenance and repair of compactors used for waste management. Your expertise will ensure that these machines are operating efficiently and effectively, helping to reduce waste and protect the environment. This is a hands-on position that requires electrical knowledge, technical knowledge and problem-solving skills. This role will evolve to other types of site repairs such as bailers, tarps and chutes. When there isn't enough sitework, you may be asked to work in the shop on assembling power units or other mechanical or welding tasks. The standard hours are 8:00-4:30 with overtime and on-call required. Below is a list of Job Responsibilities, we will train candidates with electrical experience. Job Responsibilities
  • Electrical troubleshooting, utilize advanced electrical knowledge to identify, diagnose and repair issues to ensure effective operation of the equipment and minimize downtime
  • PLC experience - ability to interface with the program and troubleshoot Programmable Logic Controllers systems that are integral to keeping the equipment operational
  • Prior experience with limit switches, photo-eye sensors and/or solenoids are beneficial
  • Adherence to safety protocols and regulations to ensure a secure working environment
  • Ability to weld
  • Knowledge of safety features in compactors and the ability to implement safety measures during repairs
  • Understanding the mechanical components of compactors and their functions
  • Proficiency in using tools for diagnostics, repairs and maintenance
  • Understanding of the principles behind compactor operations and ability to troubleshoot
  • Ability to diagnose and identify issues with compactors quickly and accurately
  • Proficiency in developing effective solution to resolve mechanical and electrical problems
  • Clear communication with customers, colleagues about the issues identified and the steps taken for repairs
  • Ability to explain technical details to individuals with varying levels of technical expertise
  • Provide excellent customer service by addressing customer concerns, answering questions, and ensuring satisfaction with the repair service
  • Efficiently managing time to complete repairs with specific deadlines
  • Prioritizing tasks based on urgency and importance
  • Noticing small details and anomalies that may be indicative of larger issues
  • Thoroughness in inspecting, repairing, and testing equipment
  • Flexibility in adapting to different types of machines; compactors, balers or chutes
  • Keeping up to date with industry advancements and new technologies
  • The ability to lift heavy equipment and perform physical tasks associate with mechanical repairs
  • Stamina to handle physically demanding aspects of the job
  • Ability to keep accurate records of repairs, parts used, maintenance activities and time spent on job
  • Provide detailed reports of the machine prior to and after the repairs are completed
  • Creative problem-solving skills to address unique and complex issues that may arise during repairs
  • Analytical thinking to assess the root cause of the repair needs
  • Clean and lubricate compactors to prevent wear and tear
  • Train and mentor junior technicians in compactor maintenance and repair
  • Assemble power units while in the shop
  • Attend, or teach, training sessions with other technicians
Requirements
  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Proven experience as a compactor technician or similar role
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems and electrical components
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing work environment and schedules
  • Willingness to learn new techniques and/or machines while keeping up with industry standards
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor when representing the company
  • Upholding a high standard of ethics and integrity
  • Adherence to all safety protocols and procedures
  • Patience and ability to handle oneself in a professional manner in stressful situations
Compensation
  • $23-$29/hour, negotiable based on experience
