What we are looking for:


Maldonado-Burkett is seeking a self-motivated, detail-oriented Senior Traffic Operations Engineer to join our Dallas, Texas office, which is located in the Watters Creek development in Allen at Bethany Drive and US Highway 75. We are seeking a Professional Engineer, licensed in Texas, with 15+ years of experience to coordinate the planning and initiation of projects at various levels of completion; monitor the progress and schedule of projects; and communicate with project stakeholders, management , and other relevant parties.


How you'll make an impact at M-B as a Senior Traffic Operations Engineer:


The Senior Traffic Operations Engineer will perform engineering work in the field of Transportation Engineering. The work performed may include (but not be limited to) the following:

  • Directs, develops, and evaluates projects using accepted project management methodologies.
  • Initiates multi-agency or enterprise-level projects, obtains authorization and commitment, and demonstrates business need and project feasibility.
  • Develops criteria for evaluating programs, proposals, and other pertinent information related to project assignments.
  • Develops project budgets, schedules, work plans, resources requirements, and cost estimates and projections.
  • Develops and implements plans to communicate and explain project methodology and processes to interested groups and team members.
  • Reviews and recommends proposals and bids to management.
  • Monitors and manages project cost to ensure that project is completed within budget.
  • Monitors and manages project quality to ensure that project deliverables are acceptable and fulfill the terms of the project contract or specifications.
  • Identifies potential project risks and difficulties and designs strategies to mitigate or avoid them.
  • Compiles and distributes project information, project status reports, and project budget expenditures.
  • Coordinates project activities with other state agencies, governmental jurisdictions, or private sector partners and contractors.
  • Creates documentation procedures to capture and deal with changes in the original project plan.
  • May testify before legislative and interested groups on project status and other issues of public interest.
  • May plan, assign, and/or supervise the work of others.
  • Performs related work as assigned.


What it takes to be successful as a Senior Traffic Operations Engineer:

  • Professional Engineer registered in Texas
  • 15 + years of experience
  • Project Management Experience from scope and fee development, contract review, client relations, bid phase processes, construction phase services, project close outs
  • Previous Supervisor experience
  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in a field relevant to the assignment is generally preferred. Experience and education may be substituted for one another.
  • Knowledge of project management theories and practices applicable to highly complex projects; of systems and procedures used to evaluate a third-party vendor's performance; and of local, state, and federal laws and regulations relevant to the administration of the project undertaken.
  • Skill in project management monitoring, in addressing changes in scope and budget, and in operating computers and applicable computer software.
  • Ability to manage project activities; to establish project goals and objectives; to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions; to analyze complex information and develop plans to address identified issues; to demonstrate negotiation and facilitation skills; to identify project risks and gaps; to prepare reports; to communicate effectively; and to plan, assign, and/or supervise the work of others.
  • May require certification as a Project Management Professional (PMP).
  • Experience with Traffic Engineering design including some or all of the following: ITS, Illumination, signals and traffic studies and their application.
  • PS&E design experience for complex traffic engineering projects for TxDOT, NTTA and local government projects
  • TxDOT PS&E and design build experience preferred, but not required
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage and deliver multiple projects.
  • MicroStation Experience
  • Knowledge in traffic and transportation Engineering
  • Knowledge in SYNCHRO, VISSIM, and CORSIM preferred, but not required
  • Microsoft Office (MS Excel is a must)
  • Knowledge in Surveying preferred, but not required
  • GIS
  • Roadway or Construction preferred, but not required

Conditions of Employment:

  • Applicant will be subject to a Motor Vehicle Record Check. Satisfactory driving records are required for driving company or personal vehicles and motor driven equipment to conduct company business.
