The Software organization develops software applications, including integration and test on missiles, launchers, radars, naval systems, fire control and other complex systems. Our precision software and firmware integrate operating systems, device drivers, networking, and control software to bring together sensor, guidance, and flight control processing features to complete the mission. The Software org is made up of several Centers located across the country, responsible for all aspects of the software development lifecycle. The Senior Software Engineer in the Advanced Effectors department of the Software Engineering Directorate will support the development of Raytheon's embedded software middleware deployed on 100+ programs. The Senior Software Engineer must have recent experience designing and developing real-time embedded software. The candidate must demonstrate strong intellectual curiosity, team leadership ability, and technical communication skills.
The successful candidate will apply their knowledge in embedded C/C++ and computer architecture to develop and maintain advanced features, to keep up with processor technologies, operating systems, cybersecurity threats, and to engage with programs to solve challenging problems. The candidate must ensure product integrity in a challenging product line and safety critical environment. The role offers variety of technical experience, an opportunity to make a broad impact across Raytheon's programs, learn the latest embedded computing technologies, and teach others.

Effectors Center of the Software organization, and is an onsite role located in Tucson, AZ.

What You Will Do- Develop new advanced features for the e mbedded software middleware .
- Introduce new processing technology and operating system support to the e mbedded software middleware .
- Engage with programs and provide innovative and creative solutions to complex technical challenges.
- Learn new emerging technologies
- Develop online and classroom learning materials
What You Will Learn - Embedded missile software design and architecture.
- Inner workings of other Raytheon common digital products.
- Be the first ones in Raytheon to learn the latest advancements in software development and embedded technologies.
Qualifications You Must Have- Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Engineering or other STEM related field and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
- Experience developing and integrating real-time embedded software
- Experience with embedded C++ and Python.
- Active and transferable Secret U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Qualifications We Prefer- Familiarity with the PowerPC or Arm-based SoC architecture.
- Experience with real-time operating systems like Wind River VxWorks and Green Hills Integrity.
- Experience with Board Support Package (BSP) or boot software development.
- Software architecture and algorithm development experience.
- Familiarity with CMake.
- Two or more years of missile software development experience
- Experience with other Raytheon common digital products

The salary range for this role is 77,000 USD - 163,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
