Senior Center Program Assistant

New York | Defence

Part Time= Monday and Thursday 9:30am-2pm


POSITION PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES:

The Program Assistant is responsible for assisting in all aspects of the program including facilitating group activities, setting up lunch and assisting clients with mobility, toileting and eating.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensures safety of program participants while at program site.
  • Facilitates social and recreational activities for participants on a daily basis.
  • Assist clients with activities of daily living as needed.
  • Assist with serving meals and clean up.
  • Reports significant incidents to Supervisor(s) as they occur.
  • Prompts participants to interact appropriately with peers and with all persons in program, and at site.
  • Appropriately completes all required documentation.
  • Attend all mandatory trainings and personally ensure that their attendance is scheduled per deadlines.
  • Additional duties as assigned by supervisor(s).



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Communication skills including strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to speak, read and write effectively.
  • Ability to maintain HIPAA confidentiality and exercise discretion when discussing clients.
  • Demonstrate detail orientation.
  • Exhibit patience, initiative, enthusiasm, adaptability, and resourcefulness.
  • Reliable and team player.
  • Able to effectively develop and document behavior management protocols.
  • Good oral and written communication skills required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :

Frequent standing, walking, and moving around the facility.

Occasional bending, stooping, squatting, and reaching.

Ability to assist clients with mobility (e.g., helping transfer from wheelchair, escorting to restroom).

Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 25-50 pounds (assisting participants, moving equipment or supplies).

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Indoors at an adult day center, community health organization, or long-term care facility.

  • May involve occasional outdoor activity or short community outings.
  • Works directly with adults who may be elderly, have dementia, physical disabilities, or developmental challenges.

MEAL POLICY:

Associates are not permitted to eat from the meals served to clients. Meals must first be served to all clients, and associates may only eat from any remaining portions after all clients have been served and finished their meals. This ensures that clients care and nutrition remain the top priority.



Compensation details: 18-19 Hourly Wage
