Are you in? Primary Purpose:

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

Develops and/or leads teams of employees or contractors in studies, plans, criteria, specifications, calculations, evaluations, design documents, integrated systems analysis, associated with the planning and design of Exelon's electric transmission and distribution, facilities/systems. Analyze and convert input and requirements from customers, suppliers and internal stakeholders to generate viable HV substation designs. Adapt as required in a dynamic communication landscape. Provides consultation and recommendations to the Company within and to other business units and/or customers as a result of studying company or customer-owned systems, processes, equipment, or facilities. Reviews financial data from budget an actual costs of projects. Provides technical expertise to strategic legislative and operational decisions. Acts as recognized technical authority in a specialized engineering area which may involve witnessing third party investigations and testing. Position may be required to work extended hours for coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies.

Primary Duties:

PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Leads all technical aspects of projects for HV substation design and engineering requiring extensive engineering expertise. Requires maintaining state of the art engineering credentials in specialized technical areas. Accountable for the performance of other technical team members internal or external.
  • Evaluates complex technical issues that require highly specialized knowledge in very specific areas and recommends actions or programs for their resolution which necessitates the review/evaluation of engineering design documents. the areas include electrical engineering, substation equipment, civil engineering, protection and control and communications.
  • Leads the work activities of project teams and others on the implementation of large specialized HV substation projects and/or programs to develop studies, proposals, construction and commissioning plans to support planning and design of major utility and customer systems. Plans and writes documentation of bids, scope, deliverables and budget for engineering work. Maintains communication with customers, suppliers and a large number of internal stakeholders.
  • Participate in technical and industry societies and committees to enhance knowledge of new technologies or issues in areas of company interest.
  • Participates in department/project management planning and monitor performance for the accomplishment of committed results.
  • Act as an expert witness and provide expert opinions for committees and regulators
  • Work weekly (3) days in office or site and maximum (2) days from home, (1) day presence at Atlantic Regional Office required, preference for Atlantic regional office or New Castle Regional office

Minimum Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering discipline with at least 7 years of professional engineering experience. (1) (3) (See Note)
  • Completed Assignments and Projects showing evidence of:
  • Ability to analyze and interpret complex electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge and ability to apply problem solving approaches and engineering theory.
  • Knowledge of engineering designs, principles and practices.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with regulations, guides, standards, codes, methods, practices, and advanced engineering principles (2).
  • Advanced knowledge of latest technologies necessary to perform a variety of specialized unique or complex assignments for various installation types of services.
  • Note: there are a limited number of personnel available in the industry with the required knowledge, ability and experience. (1) Master's degree in Engineering reduces the OJT experience requirement by 1 year. (2) License must be issued by the state in which you are practicing. (3) PE License reduces the OJT experience requirement by 1 year.
  • Note: Items (1) and (3) are mutually inclusive, whereby the maximum experience requirement reduction is one (1) year (e.g., in the case of an employee with both a master's degree in Engineering AND a PE license, the minimum experience requirement would be reduced by one (1) year.
Preferred Qualifications:

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5 years of experience with HV substations in any technical function of planning, design, construction, commissioning or maintenance.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret complex electrical and mechanical systems
  • HV substation engineering experience in electrical, civil or P&C
  • Demonstrated ability to lead the work activity of others.
  • Master of Science degree in Engineering or Licensed Professional Engineer industry expert who participates or leads industry committee or working groups or has published technical documents.
  • A working knowledge of analysis and design software packages such as CYMDIST, PSS/E, Python, PSCAD, MATLAB, AutoCad, Etc.
  • Knowledge of engineering designs, principles and practices
  • Advance knowledge and experience with regulations, guides, standards, codes, methods, practices, and advanced engineering principles.

  • Annual salary will vary based on a candidate's skills, qualifications, experience, and other factors: $109,600.00/Yr. - $150,700.00/Yr.
