We are seeking an experienced Purchasing Manager to lead our procurement team. The Purchasing Manager will oversee the sourcing, purchasing, and inventory management processes, ensuring that materials, goods, and services are acquired in a timely, cost-effective manner. This role involves supervising a team of purchasing agents, managing vendor relationships, and developing purchasing strategies that align with company goals and operational needs.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in procurement, supplier negotiation, and team management. You will be a key player in optimizing our supply chain and ensuring we maintain operational efficiency.
This role will work closely with the Strategic Sourcing Manager on cost down initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership:
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of purchasing professionals.
- Set clear performance goals, provide training and development opportunities, and conduct performance evaluations.
- Foster a collaborative and results-driven team culture.
- Procurement Strategy:
- Develop and implement effective purchasing strategies that align with business objectives and budgetary constraints.
- Analyze purchasing trends, industry developments, and market conditions to make data-driven decisions.
- Manage the procurement lifecycle, from identifying suppliers to negotiating contracts and finalizing purchase orders.
- Supplier Management:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with existing suppliers and identify new sources for goods and services.
- Negotiate contracts and terms with vendors to achieve cost savings, quality, and delivery timelines.
- Monitor supplier performance and address any issues related to quality, delivery, or pricing.
- Budget Management:
- Develop and manage the purchasing department's budget, ensuring adherence to financial guidelines.
- Monitor and control inventory levels, aiming to reduce waste and avoid stockouts.
- Inventory Control:
- Oversee inventory management processes, including forecasting, ordering, and receiving of materials and goods.
- Implement inventory management software and systems to track procurement and stock levels.
- Work closely with the warehouse and logistics teams to ensure efficient storage and distribution of materials.
- Compliance and Risk Management:
- Ensure that purchasing practices comply with company policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Manage risk through the implementation of risk management practices, including supplier diversification and contingency planning.
- Reporting and Analysis:
- Prepare regular reports on purchasing activities, budget status, and supplier performance.
- Analyze purchasing data to identify cost-saving opportunities and areas for improvement.
- Present procurement performance metrics to senior management.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
- Certification in procurement or supply chain management (e.g., CPP, CPSM, or CIPS) is preferred.
Experience:
- A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in procurement or purchasing, with at least 1-2 years in a management role.
- Proven track record of managing purchasing teams and driving cost-saving initiatives.
- Strong understanding of procurement processes, supplier management, and inventory control.
Skills:
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
- Strong leadership abilities with a demonstrated capacity to manage and motivate a team.
- Proficient in procurement software and tools - JDE experience strongly preferred. MS Office suite experience to include pivot tables
- Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions.
- Experience procuring machined components and parts
- Supplier negotiation strength required
- Familiar with deploying second/multiple sourcing strategies a plus
- Solid understanding of market trends and supplier dynamics.
