Project Estimator

The Project Estimator prepares accurate cost estimates and proposals for refractory installations involving industrial heat-processing equipment. This role reviews customer specifications and engineering drawings to determine material, labor, and processing costs. The estimator collaborates with engineering, production, purchasing, and sales teams to ensure competitive pricing and profitable project execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review customer documents, blueprints and project plans to gain a thorough understanding of the project

  • Determine what factors of production will influence the cost of a service or product

  • Prepare material estimates and cost estimates for the product or service

  • Create labor estimates for any project

  • Develop and maintain relationships with company vendors and contractors

  • Manage bids from vendors and contractors

  • Use bid data to prepare detailed a cost analysis

  • Present prepared estimates to management, salesmen and other stakeholders

  • Compile and record actual costs



Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, manufacturing, business or related field, or equivalent experience.

  • 2-3 years of experience in estimating, manufacturing, or construction.

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.

  • Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, ERP systems, and estimating tools.

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with refractory materials

  • Experience with high-temperature processing equipment for ferrous and non-ferrous applications

  • Knowledge of industrial construction industry standards and procedures

Physical Requirements

  • Handling equipment up to 50 pounds

  • Wear PPE in field environment

  • Must be able to pass a Pre-Employment Drug screen and subject to random Drug Testing upon hire- Onex is a Drug Free workplace due to the safety sensitive nature of our work

Work Environment

  • Nearly always work indoors

  • Travel periodically

  • Indoors, industrial environment
