Position Summary:
The Production/Wave Planner is responsible for managing the flow of materials and the coordination of production activities to ensure timely fulfillment of order volumes, managing backorders, kitting activities and production targets. This position plays a key role in aligning operational output with client demand by monitoring inventory, organizing and releasing production waves and adjusting plans in real time. Operating in a fast-paced environment, the Production/Wave Planner ensures seamless execution of the production schedule while minimizing downtime, optimizing efficiency, and maintaining high-quality standards
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute daily and weekly production schedules based on client orders, backorders and forecasted demand.
- Develop and refine wave release strategies for improved efficiency, ensuring they align with staffing, shipping schedules, and operational capacity
- Ensure all kit builds are scheduled, tracked, and completed on time with proper documentation
- Monitor real-time production progress, identify bottlenecks, and reallocate resources as needed to maintain schedule adherence
- Monitor backorders and partial inventory availability; adjust waves as inventory is received or replenished.
- Coordinate closely with warehouse, inventory and kitting teams to ensure material availability and readiness
- Respond rapidly to changes in demand, inventory constraints, or production issues by adjusting plans accordingly
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (production, warehouse/inventory, client service, purchasing, etc.) to resolve issues affecting production timelines
- Maintain production planning metrics and generate reports on performance, output and schedule variance, identifying exceptions, delays or inefficiencies in workflow.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to streamline planning processes and reduce waste
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in supply chain, business, operations, or a related field preferred
- 1-3 years of experience in a warehouse, distribution, or logistics environment
- 2+ years of experience in production planning, wave planning, or a similar operational planning role
- Proficiency with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), ERP systems, and Microsoft Excel
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven and constantly evolving environment
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work on-site in a warehouse environment
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, and use a computer for extended periods
- May require lifting materials or products up to 30 lbs occasionally
