SUMMARY:The Product Development Engineer is a "hands-on" position that is responsible for product design, development of product drawings, specifications, and documentation from initial concept to launch. The Product Development Engineer will participate and lead in product design, improvement, and cost reduction initiatives and will work with a cross-functional team including management, marketing, purchasing, accounting, and manufacturing. The Product Development Engineer is responsible for coordination with Project Management, Tooling, Fixture, material suppliers and prototype sourcing as needed. This position works collaboratively with leaders of Research and Development (R&D), Manufacturing, and Engineering and reports directly to the VP of Sales & Marketing.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Create 3D CAD models and/or 2D drawings for designs for new and existing products.

Provides technical support/solutions to manufacturing processes to improve yield and throughput, drives cost reduction activities, and improves on part quality.

Generates New Part Notifications and associated tracking mechanisms for new product launches.

Generates engineering Change Point Control documentation where necessary.

Creates and updates product drawings and specifications as required.

Works with equipment and material vendors to resolve machine and material issues.

Compile and verify information for SYSPRO BOM.

Works collaboratively to resolve issues and provides new project updates.

Coordinate and participate in product testing and validation.

Supports facility and manufacturing safety, environmental, and ergonomics efforts.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities; however, role may include indirect supervision of peers on projects.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

A HS Diploma/GED plus a degree in engineering/industrial design (or equivalent education/work experience) is required.

At least 3-5 years of experience within a manufacturing setting with a strong and diverse technical background in product design, lean manufacturing, tooling, equipment, materials, and quality is preferred.

Experience working with plastic injection molding as an additional plus.

Experience with 3D SolidWorks modeling is required. Draftsight or other 2D cad experience is a plus.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Has ability to read, comprehend and write the English language as it relates to safety, job responsibilities and other essential communication.

Demonstrates strong verbal and written communication skills.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:The work environment described below is representative of the surroundings an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

This is an office position but requires frequent work within a fast-paced manufacturing environment that is not temperature regulated.

The environment may be loud requiring hearing protection in some areas.

Personal protective equipment is required as defined with in the hazard analysis sheet defined for this position.
