Job Description Job Description Experience Required

10-20 Years
Hands-On Product Development
BSEE Min. MSEE Preferred

Build real power hardware. Solve real engineering problems. Ship products that matter.

We are seeking a hands-on Principal Power Electronics Engineer to design and bring to production high-power inverter and energy conversion systems used in demanding industrial environments. This role requires a builder-minded engineer who thrives at the bench-debugging hardware, solving real-world problems, and driving designs from concept through release and in-field performance support.

You will take ownership of power architecture, hardware development, and product delivery, ensuring designs perform not only in the lab but in real-world applications over time.

If you've spent your career bringing converters to life, chasing down EMI and thermal issues, and seeing your designs successfully deployed in the field-we want to talk.

This is not a simulation, modeling or management role. This is a builder's role.

Advanced degrees are valued, but do not substitute for practical, hands-on experience. Candidates whose experience is primarily simulation, modeling or management will not be a fit.

Must-Have: Power Design Experience

Bi-Directional Inverter/Charger: Hands-on design & development of high-power bi-directional topologies - schematic through tested hardware

AC Ratings: 120VAC-575VAC line voltages, up to 200A - proven in shipped products

DC Ratings: DC bus voltages up to 480VDC, DC currents up to 400ADC in product environments

Power Topologies: Full-Bridge, Flyback, Buck, Boost - hard-switching and resonant/quasi-resonant, hands-on bench experience

Magnetics & Transformers: HF ferrite and LF laminated steel transformer design - core selection, winding, prototype build and test

Passive Components: Intimate knowledge of electrolytics, film caps, inductors, and resistors - derating, parasitics, failure modes

Thermal Design: Passive and forced air cooling techniques

Must-Have: Battery & Energy Storage

Battery System Integration: Direct experience with power electronics interfacing battery systems - charge/discharge control, Li-ion, LFP, lead-acid

BMS Knowledge: Working knowledge of BMS architecture, protection, and communication interfaces

HV DC Safety: Practical HV DC design safety, isolation, and pre-charge circuit experience for battery-connected systems

Must-Have: Standards & Documentation

NEC Electrical Code: Working knowledge applied to power electronics product design

UL & CLA : All products are developed to these standards

Test Procedures & Docs: Formal test procedures, design specs, BOMs, and product documentation for manufacturing and field use

Must-Have: Hardware & Embedded

PCB Layout: High-power, high-voltage PCB layout - must have personally laid out boards, not just reviewed them

Power Devices: IGBTs, MOSFETs, and gate driver circuit design - device selection, drive design, thermal management

Analog & Digital Circuits: Mixed-signal design integrated into power conversion systems

Microchip Embedded: Hands-on experience with Microchip PIC or dsPIC microcontrollers for real-time power conversion control - device configuration, peripherals, and firmware debug

C / Assembly Programming: Must have personally written and debugged embedded firmware in C or machine-level assembly - not just modified existing code

Must-Have: Test & Simulation

Bench Troubleshooting: Expert daily use of DVMs, oscilloscopes, and differential probes for hardware bring-up and fault diagnosis

Simulation: LTspice or equivalent SPICE tools for converter modeling and pre-build validation

Key Responsibilities

Own full design cycle: topology selection schematic PCB prototype production

in-field performance support

Design battery-interfaced power converters up to 480VDC / 400ADC

Build and test power transformers - HF ferrite and LF laminated steel

Write and debug Microchip PIC/dsPIC firmware for power control

Lead bench bring-up, fault diagnosis, and product validation

Develop test procedures and complete manufacturing documentation

Support DFM reviews, NEC compliance, and field quality investigations

Candidate Requirements (Non-Negotiable)

Candidates must be able to clearly articulate specific power electronics products they personally designed, built, debugged, and brought into production, including challenges encountered and how issues were resolved.
