Principal Lead Engineer - Catheter Development

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior or Principal Product Development Engineer with a deep background in catheter development to join their growing R&D organization. This role is ideal for an engineer who thrives as both a technical leader and a hands-on individual contributor, and who has demonstrated success owning the full product lifecycle of catheter sub-assemblies from concept through commercialization.

Job Title: Senior Lead Catheter Development Engineer
Location: Fridley, MN
Salary: 125-155k + bonus, depends on experience

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the technical lead for catheter development projects, providing direction, mentorship, and expertise to cross-functional teams.
  • Drive end-to-end product development activities, including concept generation, feasibility, design, prototyping, testing, verification/validation, and design transfer.
  • Lead development of catheter sub-assemblies with a strong understanding of materials, processes, manufacturing methods, and performance requirements.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, clinical, and regulatory teams to ensure designs meet requirements and standards.
  • Provide hands-on technical execution while also contributing strategically to project planning, risk management, and milestone delivery.
  • Support continuous improvement, innovation, and best practices within the engineering team.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in medical device product development, with substantial experience in catheter design.
  • Extensive industry experience in catheter design and development, ideally at a senior or principal engineer level.
  • Proven track record overseeing the full product lifecycle of catheter sub-assemblies.
  • Strong technical proficiency with materials, manufacturing processes, and test methods used in catheter development.
  • Ability to lead technically while still contributing as an individual contributor.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and documentation skills.
