Nicholas J. Ryan & Associates, in-house counsel for State Farm Insurance Companies, is seeking a paralegal to join our BI/UM team. Candidates must have knowledge of Insurance Defense Discovery procedures and litigation procedures, as well as local court rules. Excellent communication skills both written and verbal, strong software/technological skills, and experience working in a paperless fast pace environment where all work is time sensitive are required for this role. Qualified candidates must be reliable, dedicated, and team-oriented with a professional appearance and demeanor.
Located in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, we enjoy an active, busy civil trial practice. We provide a congenial, team-oriented professional work environment with skilled support staff. We work hybrid work environment, spending some time working in office and some from home.
Prior litigation or paralegal experience, paralegal degree/certificate/certification, medical training, or relevant coursework or legal studies degree is required
3+ years of paralegal Discovery and trial experience; preferably in Insurance Defense involving bodily injury. Plaintiff's personal injury experience will be considered.
Uses basic knowledge of discovery and litigation process in state of operation to assist attorneys with file handling
Uses basic knowledge of civil procedure to draft routine pleadings, discovery, motions, and other documents as assigned by attorneys
Uses basic understanding of medical terminology, records, typical injuries and treatment to assist attorneys with medical records collection and review of medical records in assigned files
Develops skills in use of trial presentation technology to assist attorneys in trial preparation and presentation
