Packer

JOB SUMMARY
The Packer is responsible for visually monitoring finished goods on conveyor lines for quality defects, reporting accordingly and confirming counts of packaged finished goods. Informs appropriate staff of any potential quality issues discovered. It also assists Machine Operator with machine clean up. A one-hour rotation is also mandatory during the completion of tasks.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide technical, customer relations, and personnel management for major programs and projects.
  • While monitoring conveyor line, check label placement on bottles, monitor code accuracy, look for expiration date if present, check for a high, loose, or open cap on bottles, check tubes for leaking and/or sharp edging, and ensure physical count in the box.
  • Relieve other Packers at the beginning of a shift or other lines, if necessary.
  • Rotate every hour, and perform at peak efficiency to keep up with the output of the filling line.
  • Assist Operator in cleaning machine at start-up, after a spill, during washout and after breaks and lunch.
  • Stop line if the conveyor is wet.
  • Ensure bottles or tubes are not dirty or wet.
  • Assist operator to keep conveyor, nozzle, and filler clean at all times.
  • Keep Operator and Supervisor informed about defects, wrinkles on the label, no label, and illegible code.
  • Utilize the stop button, if necessary, while waiting for further notice from the Machine Operator or Supervisor.
  • Report any shortage of components to Material Handler.
  • Report any safety hazards in the work area.
  • Barricade any spill before calling Supervisor. Pick up empty bottles, cap or piece of wood found on the floor.
  • Maintain cleanliness of work area.
  • Rework will be performed in case of wrinkles label, missing or unreadable code, wet bottles, and dented tubes

QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Degrees/Certificates Minimum Required:
High School or General Education Degree (GED) is not obligatory.

Experience
No prior experience is required for this position.

  • Visually scan the conveyor line for any quality defects and remove defective materials from the line.
  • Prepare shippers for start-up lines.

  • Remove bottles from the conveyor for illegible code and/or wrinkle label
  • Deep cleaning of a line for an internal audit

  • This position requires the packer to quickly and repetitively move hands with a lot of dexterity while standing or sitting to collect objects to pack.
  • A maximum of 25 pounds must be lifted and/or moved irregularly by the packer.
  • The ability to see close with distinguishing details is very important to ensure that products meet quality standards according to customer specifications.
