Our Packaging Engineer is a remote traveling position. This individual is responsible for working with cross-functional teams and leading Flour/Mix Packaging integration and equipment operation efforts, to drive the industry with advanced package solutions, new material developments, and overall equipment effectiveness at all our facilities. We are seeking a leader that will work closely with our operations team to implement modern packaging practices, drive continuous improvement, world-class standards and help to create "Best in Class" products.
The Packging Engineer will support the Production Operations by leading technicians, training personnel, leading/managing projects, troubleshooting, repairing, installing, and modifying mechanical, pneumatic, and electrical equipment, including PLC, and multiple systems. This job would be ideal for someone who wants to continue their packaging career with a growing company. This position is remote with up to 75% travel to our plant locations.
PACKAGING ENGINEER RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Plan, direct, and coordinate long-term and short-term project guidelines, timelines, and resources.
- Manage plant projects, capital projects, and project budgets.
- Executes product initiatives, packaging design and performance enhancements, cost-improvement efforts, and promotional activities.
- Initiate and drive packaging qualifications by generating packaging protocols, overseeing test execution, analyzing test data, and authoring qualification reports.
- Provide technical expertise for packaging risk assessments and failure mode/root cause analyses.
- Provide activity, resources, and decisional input to initiate and complete packaging line trials including planning, conducting and post-trial activities.
- Perform the project plan outlined for the improvement and standardization of packaging on existing products with a focus on performance and cost effectiveness.
- Partner with purchasing and production departments to determine costs and feasibility of producing proposed packaging.
- Build internal and external relationships to effectively influence and gain support for initiatives.
- Lead the implementation of completed projects while communicating effectively with plant management, engineering, and operations about maintenance and capital project requirements.
- Assemble plant project teams, with influence leadership collaborating with the plant leader, that will be best suited to help facilitate and complete the project.
- Delegate tasks to the plant project team members to be completed, with a deadline/timeline provided.
- Oversee plant project team members and monitor the status of each part of the project and provide guidance/direction.
- Advise the executive/leadership team of any delays, issues, or discrepancies that may impact the project.
- Keep metrics and tracking of progress up to date to ensure timeliness and efficiency.
- Become familiar with all facets of the business to evaluate future project needs.
- Work directly with plant leadership and operations personnel to quickly address breakdowns, repairs, schedule PM's, etc.
- Grow, sustain, and provide direct support competency for all critical parts maintenance spares inventory.
- Develop maintenance procedures and ensure implementation.
- Own capital list and ROI for capital project for the production facilities.
- Drive initiatives and innovations that generate new opportunities for the organization.
- Coach and mentor production teams, with direct support to the Production Managers.
- Lead and support operations cross functionally throughout the company.
- Champion continuous improvement within production and maintenance teams and utilize LEAN, statistical and data-visualization tools.
- Collaborate with the Engineering and Technical Milling teams to develop improved processes and/or materials.
- Provide an environment which ensures and provides open and healthy communications.
- Monitor development of new products to help identify issues or concerns for mass production.
- Coordinate with the marketing and sales departments to define client requirements and expectations.
- Coordinate with Operations and Supply Chain to develop and continue to improve processes.
- Attract, retain, develop, and mentor key talent within plant operations.
- Lead teams safely, quickly, and effectively complete tasks with a customer centered approach, to minimize downtime and negative impacts on service levels to customers.
- Additional duties as assigned.
PACKAGING ENGINEER QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering preferred.
- 10+ years of engineering/packaging equipment experience.
- 5+ years Flour and/or Specialty Grain Technical Milling Experience
- Instinctive servant leader with evidence of success.10+ years' experience leading an operation function with direct reports.
- Experience in an agriculture or manufacturing environment. Commodity based ingredients a plus.
- Experience with Italpack, Haver, and Viking packaging equipment a plus.
- Advanced technical knowledge with strong mechanical aptitude.
- Experience managing CAPEX projects and budgets between $5k - $5M+.
- Ability to read, sketch, and understand mechanical, piping, and electrical drawings.
- Must be "hands on" with eager desire to get dirty and lead by example.

- Travel to company locations within the U.S. as needed.
