JOB SUMMARY

The Outsourcing Specialist is responsible for identifying, evaluating, and managing external suppliers and subcontractors to support the Company's metal manufacturing operations. This role ensures outsourced production meets quality standards, cost targets, delivery schedules, cost objectives, and compliance requirements. The Outsourcing Specialist works closely with engineering, quality, purchasing, and production teams to align outsourcing strategies with business goals. The Outsourcing Specialist acts as the key liaison between internal teams and external vendors to optimize supply chain performance, strengthen partnerships, and mitigate risks.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supplier Management
    • Identifies, qualifies, and onboards new suppliers and subcontractors for machining, fabrication, coating, heat treatment, and other specialized metal processes.
    • Negotiates contracts, pricing, and service agreements to optimize cost savings and value.
    • Maintains strong supplier relationships to ensure performance and reliability.
    • Monitors supplier performance (quality, on-time delivery, cost adherence, responsiveness) and implements corrective actions where needed.
    • Builds long-term partnerships with key vendors to ensure capacity, capability, and reliability.
  • Process Coordination
    • Manages the outsourcing of machining operations, specialized finishes, tooling, and secondary processes not performed in-house.
    • Ensures proper documentation, specifications, and drawings are communicated accurately to suppliers.
    • Tracks outsourced orders to ensure alignment with production schedules and customer deadlines.
    • Collaborates with engineering and production teams to provide technical specifications, drawings, and documentation to suppliers.
    • Monitors work-in-progress at subcontractors and tracks delivery schedules.
    • Evaluates cost/benefit analysis of outsourcing versus in-house production.
  • Quality & Compliance
    • Ensures outsourced products meet Company and customer requirements, including ISO 9001/AS9100 standards.
    • Partners with Quality Assurance to address nonconformances and implements corrective actions (SCAR) with suppliers.
    • Conducts supplier audits and performance reviews.
    • Resolves non-conformance issues in collaboration with internal quality and supplier representatives.
    • Maintains supplier compliance with safety, regulatory, and contractual standards.
  • Data Reporting, Continuous Improvement, Cost & Performance Monitoring
    • Maintains accurate records of outsourced activities, costs, and supplier performance metrics.
    • Provides regular reports on outsourcing activities, cost savings, and vendor performance to management.
    • Identifies and recommends opportunities for cost reduction, process improvement, and supply chain optimization.
    • Stays informed on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in outsourcing and supply chain management.
    • Tracks cost savings, lead time improvements, and supplier performance metrics.
    • Identifies opportunities for process improvement, consolidation, or reshoring/nearshoring when advantageous.
    • Provides regular reporting to management on outsourcing performance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, business, engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 7+ years of experience in outsourcing, supply chain, or procurement within metal manufacturing or related industry.
  • Knowledge of contract law and vendor compliance requirements.
  • Strong knowledge of machining, fabrication, and finishing processes.
  • Familiarity with ISO quality standards and supplier audit practices.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship management skills.
  • Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office Suite.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong project management and organizational abilities.
  • Analytical skills for cost analysis and supplier evaluation.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills with a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Experience with sourcing and supplier development.
  • Background in lean manufacturing or continuous improvement initiatives.
