Position Title: Mule Driver / Yard Mule Operator
Job Summary:
A Mule Driver is responsible for safely moving trailers, containers, and equipment within a warehouse, distribution center, shipping yard, or manufacturing facility using a yard tractor (yard mule). This role ensures efficient trailer placement, loading and unloading operations, and smooth yard traffic flow while maintaining safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate a yard mule/yard truck to move trailers throughout the yard and dock areas.
- Position trailers at loading docks for shipping and receiving operations.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of equipment and report any mechanical issues.
- Verify trailer numbers, seals, and documentation for accurate movement and placement.
- Coordinate with warehouse personnel, dispatchers, and supervisors to prioritize trailer movements.
- Maintain organized trailer inventory and yard locations.
- Follow all OSHA, DOT, and company safety regulations.
- Secure trailers and ensure proper coupling and uncoupling procedures.
- Assist with general yard duties as needed.
- Keep accurate records of trailer movements and yard activities.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience operating a yard mule, spotter truck, or similar equipment preferred.
- Valid driver's license required; CDL may be preferred depending on employer requirements.
- Knowledge of warehouse, shipping, and receiving procedures.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Strong attention to safety and communication skills.
