About the Role
Knight Managed IT is a well-established Managed Service Provider (MSP) delivering reliable, standard-driven technology solutions across multiple industries. We are seeking a Level 2 IT Project Engineer who excels at server builds, infrastructure projects, and multi-environment support.
Success in this role is defined by delivering infrastructure projects through deliberate planning, fact-based decisions, and full ownership from design through production go-live. Position requires local travel using a personal vehicle; candidate must maintain valid Texas driver's license and meet company vehicle insurance requirements.
Job Overview
In this role, you will maintain and enhance client infrastructure, execute complex technical projects, and act as an escalation point for advanced issues-while consistently delivering exceptional customer experience.
What You'll Do - Project Delivery, Operations, and Support
- Build, configure, and deploy physical and virtual Windows servers () in accordance with MSP standards, including AD DS, DNS, DHCP, IIS, RDS, Group Policy, File/Print, and SQL Server.
- Own the full server build lifecycle, from hardware prep and RAID configuration through firmware updates, security hardening, testing, and validation.
- Deploy and support Synology NAS and Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) environments, including FSLogix and image management.
- Execute infrastructure projects such as Microsoft 365/Azure AD migrations, on-prem to Azure migrations, and Windows/SQL Server upgrades.
- Perform production cutovers, migrations, and go-lives following formal change management processes.
- Manage assigned projects in ConnectWise Manage, ensuring accurate task updates, time entry, documentation, and client milestone communication.
- Act as a Level 2 escalation point, troubleshooting advanced issues across Windows Server, Microsoft 365/Azure, Intune, backup solutions, firewalls, and VMware/Hyper-V.
- Conduct root cause analysis and implement long-term corrective actions.
- Administer and validate backup systems including Acronis, DATTO appliances, and DATTO SaaS (M365).
- Create and maintain technical documentation, network diagrams, SOPs, and deployment notes while communicating professionally with clients and internal teams.
What You Bring
- 3-5 years of experience in an MSP or multi-client IT environment.
- Strong experience building, deploying, and troubleshooting physical and virtual servers.
- Hands-on experience with:
o Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy
o Microsoft 365, Azure AD, Intune
o Synology NAS administration
o SentinelOne endpoint protection
o Acronis and DATTO backup configuration & recovery
o Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD)
o VMware or Hyper-V
o Firewalls, switches, VLANs, routing, and VPNs
o Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Proficiency using ConnectWise Manage for project tracking, time entry, and documentation.
- Strong troubleshooting skills, disciplined processes, and customer-focused communication.
Preferred Certifications
- Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate (or other Microsoft Associate-level certification)
- CompTIA Network+ or Security+
- VMware certifications
- ITIL Foundation (a plus)

Physical & Professional Requirements
- Ability to lift 10-50 lbs, access server equipment (stooping, kneeling, climbing), and travel locally using a personal vehicle with required insurance.
