What this job involves: The Maintenance Technician (Carpentry Focus) position is responsible for all maintenance and repair activities related to carpentry work. This role involves liaising with maintenance teams and customers to plan, estimate, organize, and schedule required works prior to execution. The position also ensures work order data is properly stored according to the maintenance program procedures.
What your day-to-day will look like:
- Installing lab furniture and supporting lab furniture moves.
- Conducting routine inspections and preventative maintenance of lab equipment to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
- Performing carpentry fabrication and installation of straightforward room fixtures and fittings, primarily in laboratory spaces.
- Conducting maintenance on doors, windows, blinds, and office furniture.
- Hanging pictures, installing keyboard trays, and repairing office furniture systems.
- Carrying out general maintenance on various facility equipment and infrastructure.
- Assisting in the completion of building audits.
- Reviewing and prioritizing work order requests.
- Determining activities required for work order completion.
- Communicating with work order requesters.
- Arranging operational safety requirements for work orders.
- Coordinating with client representatives to understand their needs and schedule work. within negotiated downtime windows.
- Estimating labor and materials required for work orders.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM
Desired or preferred experience and technical skills:
- Experience with planning and scheduling maintenance activities
- Familiarity with lab furniture and laboratory spaces
- Knowledge of general building and equipment maintenance
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
- Proficiency in using maintenance management software
- Experience in working with various materials and tools related to carpentry
Required Skills and Experience:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- 4-6 years of experience in maintenance/operations of facilities or utilities with applicable skilled trade requirements
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to interact with all levels of the organization, outside contractors, and engineers
- Physical ability to lift over 50lbs and move large objects
- Strong problem-solving and time management skills
- Attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and work schedules
