Tagawa Greenhouses is NOW HIRING and/or promoting Maintenance Specialists to lead projects and maintain greenhouse infrastructures at our main corporate facility in Brighton, CO. Maintenance workers and current staff are eligible to apply and will be considered with other internal and external candidates based on their skill level and past performance.
Job Description:
Maintenance Specialists perform routine and preventative maintenance as well as installations and repairs within the greenhouse. Maintenance Specialists may be asked to lead a group of general staff and maintenance workers on specific projects or asked to take on additional responsibilities to ensure greenhouse facilities ready to produce the highest quality of plants and assure timely and quality delivery of product to our customers and clients.
Because of the nature of our business, plants must always be in controlled environments. Therefore, the Maintenance Specialists may be assigned work during non-business hours, including during the night. (Schedules may be subject to change within 24 hours' notice). Additional working hours may be offered during maintenance emergencies. To be eligible for hours during maintenance emergencies, it is preferred for candidates to live within 30 minutes of travel time to the greenhouse or closer (but not required).
An ideal candidate for the Maintenance Specialist position would have at least 3-5 years of relevant experience and meet the skill/experience requirements in at least one of the five critical maintenance areas. An ideal candidate follows instructions and collaborates both with the maintenance team and other greenhouse departments. Candidates with proven communication skills with an ability to be respectful and resolve problems in an efficient and effective manner are preferred. Experience with English and Spanish speakers or fluency in Spanish preferred but not required.
Essential Functions/Duties:
- Follow instructions in a way that will produce high quality work in a effective and timely manner. Communicate progress at intervals to the Maintenance Supervisor and notify the Maintenance Supervisor if work cannot be completed in a projected timeframe.
- Assists and performs equipment maintenance on Greenhouse technology and systems including but not limited to: Greenhouse structures, greenhouse work areas, heating systems, cooling systems, irrigation systems, growing equipment, electrical systems, guest worker housing, and general grounds.
- Assists and performs installations, maintenance/repairs, or construction tasks as assigned by Maintenance Manager.
- Performs preventative maintenance procedures on a scheduled basis. Including cleaning, testing, treating, and calibrating per Maintenance Manager instructions.
- Maintain and utilize maintenance equipment and safety gear.
- Inspects properties and communicates with Maintenance Manager regarding proper grounds keeping, general cleanup, and maintenance.
In addition to the above responsibilities, a Maintenance Worker will be required to assist with various projects around the greenhouse as needed. At times, it would be expected to assist with greenhouse labor as instructed by the Maintenance Supervisor/Manager.

Skills & Experience Requirements
Maintenance Specialists assist with a variety of projects assigned by the supervisor/manager based on the needs of the facility and may be accountable for assigned tasks that are completed independently without direct supervision. However, to be selected for the role and in addition to the basic requirements for the maintenance worker/general greenhouse job description, it is a requirement for candidates to have at least 2-3 years+ of professional experience or proven technical skills within at least one but preferably two of the following critical maintenance areas as follows:
- Greenhouse Equipment - Experience required installing, troubleshooting, and completing both preventative and non-routine maintenance on conveyor belts, planting lines, bale busters, seeding/vacuum suction machines, tractors, ellepot machines, CombiFix, and/or Arugus/environmental controls within a large greenhouse facility. Greenhouse uses shade cloth and some mechanical systems on the roof. All maintenance specialists must be comfortable working at heights exceeding 10ft with adequate fall protection equipment.
- Welding - Requires basic/intermediate understanding of welding processes, safety procedures, and successful completion of basic techniques including welds using various steel/aluminum parts using SMAW/FCAW. (Certification is not required but training or any level of certificate would qualify for this skill).
- Electrical - Requires a basic/intermediate understanding, safety procedures, and identification and inspection of electrical components. Work tasks may include installing basic electrical wiring/breakers, use of an electric meter for testing, mechanical work 120V-240V motors, and troubleshooting greenhouse machinery.
- Boilers - Greenhouse uses 400hp+ industrial boilers and high-pressure steam lines, so experience or ability to work in confined spaces and perform maintenance to boilers under supervision is required.
- Water/Plumbing - Greenhouse has two wells, and two reverse osmosis systems that maintenance specialists help to maintain to provide water for greenhouse and employee use. Competencies include installing PVC/copper/poly pipes, installing or maintaining faucets/water fixtures, digging new drainage, and maintaining pumps.
Basic Minimum Requirements
- Must be 21 years of age and eligible to work in the United States
- Must be able to work in all Greenhouse conditions including wet, humid, dusty, dirty, and extreme hot/cold temperatures.
- Must be able to lift or move up to 25lbs, and push/pull racks on wheels of 50lbs with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Must be comfortable working at heights of 10' or more while using proper fall protection equipment.
- Job requires employees to be on their feet for long periods of time, sit, climb, balance, stoop, squat, kneel, crouch or crawl with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Must be able to work as a part of a team and communicate in a respectful manner when speaking to clients, other greenhouse teams, managers, and coworkers.
- Must have specific vision abilities: close vision, distance vision, and color vision.
- At least 2-3 years of applicable maintenance experience (see above) within a greenhouse setting is highly preferred. Other applicable or relevant education/experience that would be considered may include maintenance certifications (welding, plumbing, electrical, six sigma, etc.), use of power tools, carpentry, electrical wiring/circuitry, boilers, generators, or other greenhouse equipment proficiency.
- Experience in Lean practices (Lean manufacturing) preferred but not required.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, and risk of electrical shock. To prevent injury, employees must abide by the safety procedures set by Tagawa Greenhouse Ent., LLC. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Compensation details: 20-21 Hourly Wage
