Machining Supervisor

Position Overview:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and Inspire: Supervise and motivate the machining team, ensuring daily operations run smoothly and efficiently. Foster a positive, growth-oriented environment.
  • Plan and Prioritize: Develop and manage job schedules, ensuring timely and accurate completion of all machining tasks. Collaborate with engineering, quality, purchasing, and operations to align with production goals.
  • Optimize Processes: Estimate machining time and resources for upcoming jobs, driving efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Manage Resources: Oversee tooling and consumable inventory, ensuring the right tools are on hand without overstocking.
  • Quality Assurance: Coordinate inspections (first-piece, random, final) and partner with quality teams to uphold stringent standards.
  • Mentorship & Development: Train, coach, and assess employees to build skills and foster career development within the machining department.
  • Problem-Solving: Troubleshoot production issues alongside the team, providing hands-on support and innovative solutions.
  • Continuous Improvement: Partner with engineering and quality teams to refine machining processes and implement improvements.
  • Safety Leadership: Champion a safe, organized, and compliant work environment. Lead monthly safety meetings and proactively address potential risks.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with purchasing to resolve supplier concerns and coordinate technical support for external vendors.
  • Administrative Duties: Oversee employee time records, manage scheduling, and conduct performance appraisals with fairness and transparency.


What We're Looking For:

  • Experience: At least 5 years of supervisory experience in a machine department, ideally within a job shop environment.
  • Technical Expertise: Proficient in milling, drilling, and tapping operations, with a strong understanding of tooling and consumables.
  • Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to supervise and mentor a diverse team, promoting accountability and professional growth.
  • Problem-Solver: Adept at troubleshooting, with a proactive approach to challenges and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborator: Strong communication skills and the ability to work cross-functionally across departments.
  • Detail-Oriented: Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, and technical documents.
  • Commitment: Willingness to work overtime as needed to meet production goals and customer deadlines.
