Horizon Construction Group specializes in the construction of multi-family housing as well as master-planned multi-use neighborhoods. Our current construction footprint is the Midwest: Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa and Michigan.


We are seeking a FIELD SUPERINTENDENT to join us for our upcoming projects in the Illinois market. As the leader on site, the Field Superintendent plays a critical role in overseeing structural and mechanical scopes while driving the construction schedule. This position ensures that all work is executed to quality standards, adheres to project timelines, and complies with safety regulations. The Superintendent collaborates closely with the on-site lead, subcontractors, inspectors, and the Project Manager to coordinate daily operations, resolve field issues, and maintain momentum throughout the build.

Position Overview: Coordinate and oversee the final touches of construction projects to ensure a visually appealing and functional result, while meeting quality standards, safety regulations, and client expectations.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Review Project Plans: Study architectural and engineering drawings to understand project requirements.
  • Team Coordination: Collaborate with architects, engineers, project managers, and stakeholders to align on project goals and timelines.
  • On-Site Collaboration: Meet with the on-site team at least once a week to review schedules.
  • Quality Control: Conduct regular inspections to ensure workmanship meets standards, addressing defects daily.
  • Subcontractor Management: Coordinate with subcontractors for specialized tasks, ensuring adherence to schedules and quality.
  • Installation Oversight: Oversee the installation of finishing materials, ensuring proper alignment and functionality.
  • Attention to Detail: Ensure precision in all finishing work, making necessary adjustments.
  • Problem-Solving: Address design conflicts and on-site challenges, proposing solutions as needed.
  • Documentation: Maintain records of progress, inspections, and changes, providing updates to project managers.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all work complies with building codes, regulations, and safety standards.
  • Client Satisfaction: Work with clients to understand their preferences and ensure the final product meets or exceeds expectations.
  • Safety Management: Identify and address unsafe working conditions or practices, document safety violations, and ensure subcontractors comply with safety standards. Conduct pre-construction safety discussions and perform daily safety checklists.

Job Qualifications:

  • Minimum of five years' experience in construction, including large-scale multi-family residential and/or commercial construction.
  • OSHA30 and First Aid/CPR certification required upon employment.
  • Familiarity with all facets of construction, including earthwork, drainage, framing, finishes, and mechanicals.
  • Strong supervisory, teaching, and motivational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Problem-solving abilities.
  • Physical ability to perform job duties, including walking job sites, climbing ladders, and lifting up to 75 pounds.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Ability to stand for long periods, walk on uneven ground, work long hours, and handle high stress.
  • Ability to operate machinery and standard office equipment.
  • Clear vision for reading plans and screens, and ability to communicate effectively with team members and clients.
