POSITION PURPOSE

The Facilities Technician I plays a crucial role in maintaining and optimizing the operational efficiency, safety, and functionality of our facilities. This position is responsible for performing various skilled and semi-skilled tasks related to the repair, maintenance, and upkeep of buildings, equipment, and systems within our organization.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Maintenance and Repairs: Conduct routine inspections, perform preventive maintenance, and promptly address any repairs needed for the building structure, mechanical systems, electrical systems, plumbing, HVAC, and other equipment to ensure uninterrupted operations.
  2. Safety and Compliance: Maintain a safe working environment by adhering to safety protocols, conducting safety inspections, identifying potential hazards, and addressing them promptly. Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and codes.
  3. Troubleshooting and Problem-solving: Diagnose issues, troubleshoot malfunctions, and implement effective solutions to maintain optimal functionality of facilities and equipment. Respond promptly to emergencies and resolve them efficiently.
  4. Equipment Management: Oversee inventory, manage supplies, and coordinate with vendors or contractors for necessary repairs or installations. Perform regular checks on equipment functionality and make recommendations for upgrades or replacements as needed.
  5. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections. Generate reports on facility conditions, maintenance schedules, and budget needs. Communicate effectively with management and other relevant stakeholders.
  6. Team Collaboration: Collaborate with other departments or team members to support facility-related initiatives, projects, or renovations. Provide guidance and assistance to colleagues as needed.


PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS

  1. Projects managed are delivered aligned to member expectations, delivered intended business value, and with high quality
  2. Good working relations exist with Credit Union personnel, members and vendors
  3. Management is appropriately informed of key activities, roadblocks and mitigations to roadblocks
  4. Leverages appropriate methodology to successfully deliver and employees retrospectives for continuous improvement
  5. Good working relationships, DEI and collaborative initiatives exist with credit union personnel.


Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic knowledge of facilities management or relevant technical field.
  • Entry-level certifications or coursework related to facility maintenance may be preferred.


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:

BASIC MECHANICAL UNDERSTANDING:

Familiarity with basic mechanical systems and components found in buildings (e.g., understanding how HVAC systems work, knowledge of pumps, motors, belts, etc.).


FUNDAMENTAL ELECTRICAL KNOWLEDGE:

Basic understanding of electrical systems and components (e.g., circuits, outlets, switches) to perform simple tasks under supervision.


INTRODUCTORY PLUMBING SKILLS:

Basic knowledge of plumbing systems, including identifying common fixtures and understanding simple repairs (e.g., fixing leaks, clearing clogs).


SAFETY AND COMPLIANCE AWARENESS:

Understanding of basic safety protocols and practices in a facility environment (e.g., proper tool usage, handling chemicals, personal protective equipment - PPE).


TOOL PROFICIENCY:

Familiarity with common hand and power tools used in maintenance and repair work, and the ability to use them safely and effectively.


DOCUMENTATION AND RECORD-KEEPING:

Basic ability to maintain logs, records, and documentation related to maintenance activities.


CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS:

Developing interpersonal skills to interact positively with colleagues, supervisors, and possibly customers or tenants within the facilities.


ADAPTABILITY AND WILLINGNESS TO LEARN:

Eagerness to learn new skills and adapt to changing tasks or instructions as guided by experienced technicians or supervisors.


PHYSICAL FITNESS:

Ability to perform physically demanding tasks and work in various conditions (e.g., lifting heavy objects, working in confined spaces, standing for extended periods).


BASIC COMPUTER SKILLS:

Ability to perform basic Computer skills, using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook


EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • One (1) or more years of professional experience in field

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Technical Knowledge: Understanding and proficiency in working with mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems. This includes troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining these systems to ensure optimal functionality.


  • Equipment Maintenance: Ability to perform routine maintenance on various equipment, including but not limited to generators, boilers, pumps, and other machinery commonly found in facilities.


  • Safety Compliance: Knowledge of safety protocols and regulations to ensure a safe working environment for oneself and others. This includes familiarity with OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) guidelines.


  • Problem-solving: Strong analytical skills to identify issues, diagnose problems, and implement effective solutions in a timely manner. This involves both reactive troubleshooting and proactive maintenance.


  • Communication Skills: Ability to effectively communicate with team members, supervisors, and other departments regarding maintenance needs, repairs, and project updates. Clear communication is crucial for coordination and workflow efficiency.


  • Time Management: Prioritization skills to manage multiple tasks efficiently, meet deadlines, and handle emergency situations promptly.


  • Technical Documentation: Proficiency in maintaining accurate records, documenting maintenance activities, and creating reports. This helps in tracking repairs, maintenance schedules, and inventory.


  • Adaptability: Flexibility to work in various environments and handle unexpected challenges that may arise in a dynamic facility setting.


  • Basic IT Skills: Understanding of basic computer systems and software to operate facility management systems, track inventory, and manage work orders.


  • Customer Service: Ability to interact with building occupants, tenants, or clients in a professional and courteous manner when addressing maintenance issues or concerns.


  • Physical Stamina: Facilities technicians often perform physically demanding tasks, so physical fitness and stamina are essential for carrying out duties that may involve lifting heavy equipment or prolonged periods of standing or walking.
