    Position_Description :

    Job Overview

  • The Estimating Manager leads and oversees the process of creating cost estimates for projects, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and efficiency. They are responsible for developing and implementing estimating standards, procedures, and methodologies, as well as managing a team of estimators. They are accountable for estimating success and building and maintaining a consistent backlog.

  • Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage and hold all team members accountable.
  • Oversee all aspects of pre-construction and manage company estimating activities.
  • Review advertisements for upcoming bids and select bids to pursue to build a steady, growing backlog.
  • Prepare estimates using B2W Enterprise Edition estimating software, company's cost history and own experience through review of plans and specifications, quantity takeoff, crew selection/productivity, vendor and subcontractor quote management and company guidelines for overhead and margin.
  • Review bids for accuracy, completeness, and competitiveness and lead bid review meetings.
  • Represent company's interests in negotiations with joint venture partners or owners on projects of significant size or unusual scope.
  • Analyze past estimating data and analytics to maintain the highest level of bidding accuracy and competitiveness possible. (Track bid results, success rates, prime vs. Sub, type of work)
  • Develop and maintain excellent client and industry relationships.
  • Review contracts and subcontracts from owners and prime contractors and propose changes to reduce risk.
  • Prepare subcontracts and purchase orders when we are the prime contractor.
  • Assist with project change orders, extra work claims, supplemental agreements, and value engineering concepts.
  • Evaluate post project performance from estimate through construction and offer suggestions for improvement.
  • Assist with technical proposals for design-build projects or other alternative delivery proposals.
  • Manage B2W, understand enhancements and other features available, implement and lead training.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as needed.

  • Supervisory Responsibility

  • The Estimating Manager will supervise Senior Estimators, Estimators, and Administrative personnel.

  • Work Environment

  • A combination of the traditional office workspace and construction sites. Construction work is conducted outdoors on rough terrain. There is constant exposure to various weather conditions typical in the states where the work is performed, including noise, dust, and other materials. The work environment is in areas where heavy equipment, power tools and traffic are present. There is exposure to heights up to 50+ feet and depths of up to 80+ feet in this construction work environment.?

  • Physical Demands

  • The physical demands described below are representative of but not limited to the physical exertion generally required to perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time while using a keyboard. They are frequently required to stand and walk. They are occasionally required to lift, carry, push, pull, and reach overhead materials up to 20 pounds, along with frequent gross manipulation using their hands. The visual requirements include demonstrating or having vision corrected to 20/20. In general, this position includes sedentary work that primarily involves sitting and/or standing as well as repeating motions that include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.


  • Position Requirements :

    Required Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Professional Engineering License.
  • 10+ years of Highway Heavy estimating experience
  • Thorough knowledge of standard construction industry contracting, purchasing, engineering, and controls procedures.
  • Experience successfully leading and managing a team.
  • Advanced knowledge of equipment uses and construction techniques.
  • Team player with a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Preferred

  • B2W experience
  • Heavy Civil Construction management experience
  • Experience with alternate delivery projects (Design-Build, CMGC, etc.)
