JOB PURPOSE AND REPORTING STRUCTURE: Reports to the Plant Manager. Responsible for safe and professional operation of Class A tractor-trailer equipment to support the processing plant, growers and feed mill related shipping requirements. This position will maintain a food safety culture and require all employees to participate.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.
All employees are responsible to report food safety and quality issues to those responsible to initiate action.
MARGINAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Any/all as needed.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None.
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform and prioritize multiple tasks and respond appropriately to constant change in priorities as necessary. Valid Class A CDL drivers license in good standing.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Experience preferred in operation of Class A tractor / trailer and knowledge of handling food and/or fragile products. Ability to operate forklift and/or pallet jack.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to speak and read the English language. Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of supervision. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to fill out and complete records and forms.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. General computer skills an asset.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to challenges and opportunities.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to adjust schedules routinely.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently is required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and taste or smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently exposed to wet/and or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
REQUIRED PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE): Work gloves, proper clothing for weather and operation of moving equipment (eg feed auger trailer). Driver must also be able to make safe use of their cell phone for communication as required during the use of equipment.
