Customs Specialist


Description:

Position Summary: The Customs Specialist is responsible for the accurate and timely submission of customs entries for clearance, maintaining material movements into the Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) and removals out of it and creating necessary documents and forms to be submitted to CBP.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following, other duties may be assigned:

  • Analyze and validate import documentation and data to ensure they are in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations prior to entry submission to U.S Customs
  • Ensure compliance with the CBP regulations by monitoring inventory movements, filing necessary documentation, coordinating with internal departments and external parties, and maintaining accurate recordkeeping within the FTZ
  • Classify products according to the HTSUS
  • Recognize routine and non-routine transactions for reporting discrepancies to management
  • Manage customs issues, such as holds and exams
  • Direct communication with CBP, FTZ software provider and freight forwarders in regards to problems or errors
  • Create and submit required forms, reports and information to CBP that are necessary for a FTZ
  • Report all issues and risks to management affecting accuracy and timely clearance
  • Report problem resolutions to management in a timely manner including suggestions for problem avoidance in the future.
  • Supports creating KPIs to visualize necessary improvements and the progress
  • Maintains and supports 5S standards in all Logistics areas. Assists Kaizen blitzes and lead improvement projects in the Logistics areas.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent, Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain or in related field preferred and 3 years of experience in a Logistics/Warehouse environment and/or foreign trade experience

Experience:

  • Ability to Plan and solve problems with little or no guidance
  • Ability to prioritize daily tasks appropriately
  • Knowledge of record keeping requirements, rules, and regulations
  • SAP and MS Office experience
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Good attendance record
  • Lean/Six Sigma is a plus
