Position Summary
The Container Repair Technician is responsible for repairing, maintaining, and refurbishing waste containers and carts to ensure safe, functional, and reliable service for our customers. This hands-on position supports daily operations by performing welding, fabrication, and general repairs on front load, rear load, roll-off containers, and carts.
This role is ideal for individuals with mechanical or welding experience who enjoy physical, outdoor work and take pride in quality craftsmanship.
Key Responsibilities
Container & Equipment Repair
- Repair refuse containers, carts, and roll-off boxes to maintain safe operating condition
- Perform welding, cutting, grinding, and fabrication on steel containers (MIG welding preferred)
- Replace or repair container components including lids, hinges, wheels, casters, bars, and doors
- Patch holes, straighten bent metal, and reinforce structural damage
- Inspect containers for safety issues and operational defects
Maintenance & Yard Support
- Perform preventative maintenance on containers to extend service life
- Maintain container inventory and report repair needs or recurring issues
- Assist with loading, unloading, and repositioning containers within the yard
- Operate basic shop equipment and handheld tools safely
- Keep work areas, tools, and equipment clean and organized
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all company safety procedures and PPE requirements
- Ensure repaired containers meet company safety and quality standards
- Report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, or hazards immediately
- Work in compliance with applicable safety and environmental regulations
Qualifications
Required
- Prior experience in welding, fabrication, mechanics, or equipment repair OR willingness to learn
- Ability to use basic shop tools (grinders, welders, cutting tools, hand tools)
- Strong attention to detail and safety awareness
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Dependable attendance and strong work ethic
Preferred
- MIG welding experience
- Experience repairing refuse containers, carts, trailers, or metal structures
- Experience in waste, recycling, construction, or industrial environments
- Valid driver's license
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
- Outdoor and shop-based work environment
- Exposure to weather conditions, dust, odors, and industrial noise
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, lift, and climb throughout the workday
- Ability to regularly lift up to 75 pounds
- Ability to operate equipment and tools safely
