Position Overview
The Construction Manager / Crane Assembler plays a critical role in managing the construction and assembly of ship loaders for material handling projects at port facilities. This position involves extensive coordination of construction site activities, quality assurance, and adherence to safety protocols. The role is primarily based in Asia, overseeing the construction of heavy industrial equipment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Pre-Construction Design Review (USA)
Travel to the home office in Alpharetta, GA to participate in design reviews.
Collaborate with engineering and project teams to understand construction procedures (structural, mechanical, electrical, hydraulic).
Review contract documents, including sold proposals, delivery schedules, client specifications, and quality standards.
2. Project Coordination
Assist in developing scopes of work for subcontractors in Asia.
Align construction activities with project milestones through regular collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
Conduct progress meetings to identify and resolve issues promptly.
3. Quality Assurance & Quality Control (QA/QC)
Manage QA/QC documentation between the construction site and engineering teams.
Review reports from fabricators and escalate concerns.
Implement project-specific QA/QC procedures and inspection test protocols.
4. Construction Oversight (Asia)
Maintain inventory of free-issue components upon arrival at the site.
Create short-term (1-2 week) construction schedules and ensure all components are staged accordingly.
Conduct daily site visits to monitor construction progress and ensure safety compliance.
Collaborate with craft-specific superintendents to resolve site issues.
Supervise subcontractors and prioritize daily activities.
Maintain a comprehensive log of field changes for accurate documentation.
Perform constructability reviews and communicate findings to relevant teams.
5. Commissioning & Transport Preparation (Asia)
Complete final QA/QC and inspection documentation.
Lead Lockout/Tagout/Checkout (LOTO) procedures.
Oversee equipment disassembly, labeling, and preparation for international shipping.
Coordinate insurance inspections related to rigging, lifting, and securing for ocean transport.
6. On-Site Operations and Maintenance (USA)
Verify all performance guarantees are met prior to project closure.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve outstanding operational issues.
7. Project Closure
Assist in managing warranty claims post-construction.
Support evaluation and resolution of any claims related to liquidated damages or backcharges.
Validate and submit complete as-built drawings that accurately reflect all modifications.
Participate in lessons learned reviews and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
10-20 years of experience in industrial construction, with a focus on material handling systems.
Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills.
Detailed knowledge of construction safety standards and QA/QC practices, including:
AWS D1.1 welding standards
AISC construction practices and tolerances
Mechanical systems (gearboxes, drives, hydraulics, conveyors, etc.)
Electrical routing and device functionality
Rigging techniques and inspection standards
Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, Teams, Project, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic international setting.
Willingness and ability to travel extensively, including long-term overseas assignments.

Work Environment:
Remote work is not standard and requires prior written approval.
When in the U.S., presence is required at the Alpharetta office or project site.
When in Asia, the expectation is daily presence at the assembly yard or workshop.

Travel Requirements:
Valid Passport
TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential)
International travel, including 2-3 months in Alpharetta, GA for design review, with the remainder of time spent in Asia
