We are seeking to add a role supporting our large-scale data center construction project in Fort Wayne, Indiana. It is expected to continue supporting future project phases based on performance, project needs, and client requirements.
Position SummaryThe Construction EHS Manager (Client-Facing) provides on-site safety leadership for a fast-paced, schedule-driven data center construction project. This is a highly visible, field-based role requiring a confident, experienced safety professional who can enforce safety requirements, proactively manage risk, and maintain strong working relationships with construction leadership and a highly engaged client safety team.
The successful candidate will be comfortable operating under schedule pressure, addressing complex safety challenges in real time, and serving as a steady, credible safety authority in the field.
Role Expectations & Work EnvironmentThis position operates within an active construction environment where schedule demands, weather impacts, and multiple stakeholder priorities are present. The Construction EHS Manager is expected to consistently enforce safety requirements, exercise sound judgment, and maintain strong working relationships with construction leadership, joint venture partners, and the client team. This role requires confidence, professionalism, and the ability to influence outcomes while upholding safety standards without compromise.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the on-site EHS lead for data center construction activities
- Enforce site safety requirements across all JV partners and subcontractors
- Maintain a strong daily field presence through site walks, inspections, and hazard identification
- Identify and mitigate risks associated with high-hazard construction activities
- Lead incident investigations, near-miss reviews, and corrective action implementation
- Participate in and support client safety meetings, audits, and inspections
- Deliver site orientations, toolbox talks, and targeted safety training
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, NFPA, EPA, and applicable state and local regulations
- Track and report safety metrics, trends, and observations to project and corporate leadership
- Exercise stop-work authority when conditions warrant and escalate concerns appropriately

- Clearly defines and reinforces site safety expectations
- Identifies top risk areas tied to schedule acceleration and weather impacts
- Operates independently while maintaining alignment with Corporate EHS leadership
- Is viewed as firm, fair, and consistent in safety enforcement
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or related field5+ years of EHS experience supporting large-scale construction projectsExperience in data centers, mission-critical facilities, or fast-track construction strongly preferredProven ability to influence without direct authority in multi-employer or JV environmentsStrong working knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, EPA, ISO 45001, and ISO 14001Professional certifications preferred: CHST, OHST, CSP, or similarConfident communicator with strong field presence and sound judgmentProficiency with EHS management systems and Microsoft Office
