Position Overview
As a Commercial Estimator (Commercial Concrete and Industrial Coatings), you'll play a critical role in shaping project success by developing accurate, competitive bids tailored to both structural concrete and specialty coatings. You'll support our Commercial Division with thoughtful cost analysis, client-facing proposals, and strategic coordination.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate bid requests and project opportunities to determine pursuit viability based on schedule, resources, location, and equipment requirements.
- Review architectural and construction plans, drawings, and specifications for commercial concrete and industrial coatings projects.
- Prepare accurate quantity takeoffs, cost analyses, and detailed estimates for materials, labor, equipment, and subcontracted services.
- Develop and submit competitive, client-aligned proposals that meet project budgets and timelines.
- Collaborate with commercial operations leadership, including division VPs on pricing strategy, sourcing, and cost optimization.
- Track bid results and continuously refine estimating data to improve accuracy and competitiveness.
- Participate in site visits, pre-bid meetings, and client presentations as needed to support project understanding and relationships.
- Stay informed on material cost trends, supplier developments, and emerging technologies in concrete and coatings to enhance estimating precision and project quality.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience estimating commercial concrete projects.
- Proven knowledge of concrete construction methods, decorative and protective coatings (e.g., epoxy, micro-toppings).
- Familiarity with estimating software (Viewpoint, Bluebeam, Plan Swift, etc.) and Microsoft Office suite.
- Strong ability to read blueprints, specs, and detailed construction documents.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and mathematical skills.
- Effective oral and written communication; capable of negotiating and presenting to clients/stakeholders.
- Self-directed and able to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a growing business environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with decorative overlay systems, commercial coatings, or specialized coatings like waterparks or other industrial concrete coatings.
- Bachelor's degree in construction management, Civil Engineering, or related field (preferred but not required).
