CIVIL ENGINEERING INTERN- SEASONAL

PAY RANGE $20-$28 PER HOUR (D.O.E.)


JOB SUMMARY

The role of a Civil Engineering Intern is designed to offer hands-on experience and training within the field of civil engineering; this will be on site in the field for the Summer season. This position provides an opportunity to gain insight into how civil construction projects are administered, constructed, and delivered. This position will work directly with the contractor and be directly responsible for understanding the work the contractor is performing and how they can impact residents' businesses. As an intern, you'll be able to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world projects under the guidance and mentorship of experienced engineers.

TYPICAL DUTIES

Under the direction of the Capital Projects Manager-Engineering, perform construction observation and regularly communicate with residents about construction schedules, potential impacts, and safety measures. Respond to residents' questions, concerns, and complaints about the construction. Work with the contractor to ensure construction activities are timed and scheduled to minimize noise, dust, and other disruptions. Participate in field surveys and data collection activities to gather information necessary for project planning and design.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

??? Must be currently enrolled to receive an associates or bachelors degree in the areas of Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or Construction Management or have recently received a degree; other closely related majors will be considered.
??? Basic understanding of construction practices, various construction methods and procedures with regards to grading, streets, water, and storm sewer systems.
??? Knowledge of a variety of computer applications including Google Earth, Outlook, and Microsoft office 360.

Valid Driver's license and at least 18 years of age


WORKING CONDITIONS
??? Depending on the assigned task, this position shares time between the office and the field. This is a physical role that requires, at times, being on-site during construction activities.
??? Adherence to safety rules including the use of Personal Protective Equipment while on site is required at all times.
??? The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 75 pounds.
??? Site and smell requirements are necessary to ensure safe work sites.
??? This position interfaces with a variety of people and may include stressful situations.
