POSITION TITLE: Buyer FLSA Status: Exempt


POSITION SUMMARY:

The Buyer plays a crucial role in ensuring the uninterrupted flow of materials and goods required to support production operations. This position is responsible for managing procurement activities, supporting inventory control, and maintaining supplier relationships to meet operational and budgetary goals. A strong sense of ownership, attention to detail, and proactive mindset are essential to success in this role.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Procurement

  • Place purchase orders based on production schedules, stock levels, and project requirements.
  • Research and source materials, tools, and equipment, to meet cost, quality, and delivery expectations.
  • Negotiate prices and terms with suppliers to maximize costs effectively.
  • Track and expedite orders, communicate delivery status, and resolve any delays or discrepancies.
  • Ensure purchases are aligned with budgetary limits and propose alternative options.
  • Maintain productive, professional relationships with suppliers; vet and onboard new vendors as needed
  • Process returns and resolves issues such as overages, shortages, and damages with suppliers.

Inventory Control

  • Work with shipping lead to receive and inspect incoming materials; verify accuracy, quality, and paperwork.
  • Maintain accurate stock records in ERP system, enter receipts and track usage against jobs.
  • Perform routine cycle counts and physical inventories to maintain optimal stock levels; identify and resolve discrepancies.
  • Ensure materials are appropriately labeled and organized in stockroom and production facility.
  • Issue materials to jobs, analyze job costs, and complete end of month duties.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with production, shipping, project management, and estimating teams to align material with operational needs.
  • Continuously identify process improvements in purchasing and inventory control.
  • Take initiative to expand knowledge in procurement, vendor management, and supply chain best practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

  • 2+ years in purchasing/procurement and inventory experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong sense of ownership and accountability; eager to take initiative and grow in the role.
  • Self-starter who can work independently and solve problems.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ERP systems.
  • Team-oriented mindset with "work hard, play hard" attitude.
  • Ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Valid license with a clean driving record.
  • OSHA 10 or 30 certification is a plus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for periods of time; use hands to finger, handle controls (keyboard, phone); and talk or hear. The employee is required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move 50 pounds and move it for at least 50 feet. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
