At Midland States Bank, base salary is one component of our Total Rewards program. Exact compensation is determined by factors such as (but not limited to) education, skills, internal equity, and experience. This position offers additional compensation in the form of short-term incentives (i.e. bonus and/or commission) and may include long-term incentives (i.e. stock awards). Position SummaryThe BSA Analyst II - Wealth Management is responsible for supporting the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Anti-Money Laundering (AML), and Identity Theft Prevention Program (ITPP) compliance efforts specifically within the Wealth Management department. This includes oversight of trust services, registered investment advisors (RIAs), Retail Non-Deposit Products (NDIP) and broader wealth management activities. The BSA Analyst II will conduct investigative and analytical reviews of transactions and client behaviors to identify and report potentially suspicious activities in accordance with federal regulations and bank policy.
This position plays a critical role in safeguarding the integrity of the bank's Wealth Management operations by ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and preventing misuse of financial services for illicit purposes. The BSA Analyst II operates under limited supervision and is expected to demonstrate strong analytical judgment and subject matter knowledge in wealth-related financial products and services.
Primary Accountabilities- Responsible for administering the BSA/Anti-Money Laundering Program, fraud prevention, and identity theft prevention program, ensuring adherence to the bank's policies and federal regulations.
- Performs investigative and analytical evaluations of account monitoring activities to identify and report suspicious activities.
- Maintains accurate documentation and reporting of all BSA/AML compliance activities, ensuring that all findings and actions are properly recorded and communicated to relevant stakeholders.
- Works closely with the Director - Financial Crimes, BSA/AML Officer and Wealth Management Risk and Compliance personnel to foster a cohesive and proactive approach to managing AML risks.
- Assists with supporting the Bank in the comprehensive end-to-end processes of the BSA/AML/Fraud/ITPP program.
- Investigates potentially fraudulent, high risk BSA transactions identified by Verafin.
- Reviews and validates risk ratings for all new personal and commercial accounts using the AML system risk rating module.
- Assist with maintaining a Customer Identification Program (CIP) and Know Your Customer/Business (KYC/B) processes for Wealth Management clients, ensuring thorough verification of identity and beneficial ownership in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Conduct customer due diligence (CDD) and enhanced due diligence (EDD) reviews specific to high-net-worth individuals, trusts, and investment accounts.
- Assists the BSA Officer in identifying high risk accounts from information received from other sources (legal service of process, Suspicious Activity Incident Forms, and media reports) and establish enhanced due diligence and monitoring efforts.
- Performs independent analysis for cases involving suspicious activity including, but not limited to, money laundering and identity theft for presentation to the BSA Officer.
- Assist in the ongoing review of policies and procedures to ensure compliance with current BSA/AML/OFAC regulations and industry best practices related to Wealth Management.
- Reconciles all customers and accounts identified as high risk or medium risk to system reports.
- Performs periodic reviews of all new accounts, using system reports, to ensure that all new accounts have been appropriately risk rated.
- Provides recommendations for periodic BSA training to address areas of weakness noted in Wealth procedures in support of annual BSA program training.
- Remains current with changes in BSA regulations and develop related procedures or revisions to the BSA Program with the BSA Officer.
- The role requires occasional travel for training and team meetings, and willingness to travel periodically, to locations within market as needed.
- May require work in a Midland office to ensure collaboration and support of internal and external customers.
- Maintain compliance with all applicable regulations including, but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA).
- Other duties as assigned.
Position QualificationsEducation/Experience:- High School education required, Bachelor's Degree preferred or five years of equivalent work experience.
- Minimum of three years banking experience including branch/platform experience and knowledge of Bank Secrecy Act, AML, and ITPP regulatory requirements.
- Investigative and analytical mindset.
- Ability to learn fraud AML transaction monitoring systems.
- Basic knowledge of Bank services and products.
- BSA Certification or willingness to be certified within one-year of employment.
