Overview

Associate National Legislative Counsel Objective

To implement Farm Bureau policies through preparation, enactment and administration of federal legislation and regulations. To establish, maintain and promote positive relations with all members of the Michigan Congressional delegation, staff and agency personnel. To protect and promote the interests of Farm Bureau members, agricultural and rural interests, as a spokesperson for Michigan agriculture on national issues.



Responsibilities

Associate National Legislative Counsel Responsibilities

Implement policies through preparation, promotion, and enactment of legislation on national issues as developed by the membership and determined by voting delegates at the AFBF Annual Meeting and as interpreted by the AFBF Board of Directors. Work with the Michigan Congressional Delegation, executives and staff of federal departments, agencies, commissions, boards, and other organized groups and individuals.

Remain up-to-date on the development of national issues affecting agriculture. Become familiar with all federal laws and regulations affecting Farm Bureau members and agriculture.

Evaluate the actions of legislative representatives and give management information to assess favorable and unfavorable representation on particular issues of importance to the company.



Qualifications

Associate National Legislative Counsel Qualifications

Required : Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required, with preference for an agriculture-related field or public policy.

One to three years' experience in the legislative or public policy arena, with a working knowledge of the federal legislative and regulatory process.

Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to make presentations to a wide range of audiences.

Experience with a personal computer.

Preferred : Experience in agriculture related field preferred.
